Case study · Legal · Local SEO + GMB
Eleven practice areas, seven years in court — and almost nothing in Gurugram search.
Advocate Kanika Rao practises across eleven areas of law from Civil Lines, Gurugram — matrimonial, corporate, POSH, RERA, cybercrime, arbitration and more — appearing before the Gurugram District Court, the Punjab & Haryana High Court and Delhi NCR tribunals. The practice was strong. Its search presence was not. Today it ranks for 40+ keywords and appears in the Gurugram map pack.

The problem: a specialist competing against generalists
Gurugram’s legal search market is dominated by directory listings and large NCR firms bidding on generic terms. A single-advocate practice cannot outrank Justdial for "lawyer in Gurgaon" — and shouldn’t try. The audit found the real issues: no Google Business Profile presence in local results, eleven distinct practice areas collapsed into one thin services page, no content answering the questions clients actually type at 11pm, and no citation footprint across the legal directories Gurugram clients check before calling.
There was also an opportunity nobody in the market had taken. Corporate compliance searches — POSH policy, contract vetting, RERA complaints — are made by businesses in Gurugram’s corporate belt, carry far higher value than one-off consultations, and had almost no serious content competing for them.
What we did
Google Business Profile and local signals
- Rebuilt the profile: correct legal categories, service list covering all eleven practice areas, Civil Lines service area, real office photos, and Q&A entries written as complete answers
- Standardised name, address and phone across legal directories and Gurugram business listings — the inconsistencies that quietly split local authority
- Set up an ethical review routine tied to matter completion, with owner responses on every review
Practice-area architecture
- A dedicated, properly written page for each practice area rather than one combined list — matrimonial, corporate, POSH, RERA, cybercrime, cheque bounce, arbitration, consumer, IP, labour and contracts
- Each page answers the client’s real questions: what the process involves, how long it takes, what it costs, and what happens first
- Court-aware content referencing the Gurugram District Court and Punjab & Haryana High Court, so the pages read as local practice rather than national boilerplate
The corporate-compliance opening
- Content built for Gurugram’s corporate belt: POSH policy and training, contract drafting and vetting, company formation compliance
- Framed for a business reader making a procurement decision, not a distressed individual
- FAQ schema and answer-first structure so these pages surface in AI answers as well as Google

The takeaway
Solo and small practices lose local search by trying to compete on the terms directories own. Kanika Rao’s practice won by going narrower and deeper: a real page for every practice area, a properly built profile, and content aimed at the specific searches Gurugram clients make — including the corporate compliance work larger firms overlook. Bar Council norms were respected throughout: education-first content, factual credentials, no outcome promises.
