The Challenge
Kapil Chandna is an experienced Delhi-based lawyer with a strong professional reputation built over years of practice. The problem: his online presence didn’t reflect it. His firm ranked for its own name and nothing else.
When potential clients in Delhi searched for criminal lawyers, family lawyers, or legal consultants in specific neighbourhoods, his firm didn’t appear. No Google Maps presence. No AI Overview mentions. Competitors with less experience and smaller practices were appearing before him for every high-intent legal query in the city.
The impact was direct: potential clients who didn’t already know his name couldn’t find him. Referrals were the only reliable source of new business. He needed to appear for the searches his future clients were actually making.
The Diagnosis
We began with a full audit of his local search presence. The gaps were clear across five areas.
Missing key categories, no geo-tagged photos, no service descriptions, no Q&A content, no review acquisition strategy. A GBP listing that existed but wasn’t working.
The firm’s name, address, and phone number appeared in four different formats across directories. Google was treating these as different businesses — diluting all local authority.
The firm appeared on fewer than 10 online directories. Legal-sector-specific Indian platforms — critical for local legal query rankings — had no presence at all.
Queries for “criminal lawyer Delhi” in Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity returned no mention of the firm. Despite his experience, AI systems had no basis to recommend him.
No pages targeting Delhi neighbourhood searches. No FAQ content answering the questions Delhi residents search when they need legal help. No schema markup identifying the type of legal practice.
The Strategy
Local SEO Foundation
Google Business Profile Overhaul
Rebuilt the GBP listing from the ground up: correct primary and secondary categories (Legal Services, Criminal Justice Attorney, Family Law Attorney), updated service areas covering all Delhi zones, uploaded 25+ geo-tagged professional photos, wrote detailed service descriptions for each practice area, and populated the Q&A section with 12 common legal questions and direct answers.
NAP Standardisation
Audited 45 directories and citation sources. Standardised the business name, address, and phone format across all of them. Removed duplicate listings. Submitted consistent citations to the 18 legal-sector directories where the firm had no presence.
Citation Building
Targeted the legal-sector citation sources that carry most weight for Delhi legal queries: Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMart (professional services), LawRato, Vakilsearch, Advocate Finder, and district bar association listings. Each citation was submitted with full business details and practice area descriptions.
Review Strategy
Implemented a review acquisition process: timing of requests tied to successful case outcomes, message templates, and platform priority (Google first, then Justdial). Within 60 days, the firm had doubled its review count with an average rating above 4.5.
Local Content Strategy
Created four location-specific landing pages targeting high-volume Delhi legal queries:
- Criminal lawyer in Delhi
- Family lawyer in South Delhi
- Property dispute lawyer Delhi
- Legal consultation Connaught Place
Each page answered the specific questions Delhi residents search before engaging a lawyer, included local schema markup, and was interlinked with the main practice area pages.
AI SEO Implementation
Google AI Overviews Targeting
Restructured the homepage and practice area pages to lead with direct answers to high-intent legal questions. AI Overviews extract content from pages that directly answer the query — we formatted every key page to answer the most common legal question in its category within the first paragraph.
FAQPage Schema
Implemented FAQPage JSON-LD schema on all five main practice area pages, covering 35 questions in total. This schema tells AI systems exactly which questions each page answers — increasing citation probability for Delhi legal queries.
Citation-Ready Content
Created 130–170 word citation blocks on each practice area page: self-contained answers that AI systems can extract and present directly when someone asks about legal services in Delhi.
The Results
Measured 4 months after campaign launch
| Metric | Before | After | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local Search Visibility Score | Baseline | +520% | +520% |
| Google Maps Rankings (target keywords) | Not ranking | Top 3 for 8 keywords | — |
| AI Overview Appearances | 0 | 6 Delhi legal queries | — |
| Google Business Profile Views | 140/month | 890/month | +536% |
| Client Visits from Online Enquiries | Baseline | 3× baseline | +200% |
| Review Count | 8 | 31 | +287% |
The firm now appears in the Google Maps 3-pack for high-intent legal queries across Delhi. It appears in Google AI Overviews when users ask for legal help in Delhi neighbourhoods. Client visits from online enquiries tripled — driven entirely by people who found the firm through search rather than referrals.
Key Takeaway
Local SEO and AI SEO are not separate strategies for a local service business — they’re the same goal approached at two levels. The map pack puts you in front of users who click links. AI Overviews put you in front of users who get the answer before they click. A practice that appears in both is visible to every type of searcher. Kapil Chandna’s firm now does both.
