Digital marketing in Surat, where almost nobody is competing.

Surat is one of India’s largest cities and among its least digitally contested. A diamond and textile economy worth billions runs largely on relationships, trade networks and physical markets, with almost no meaningful online presence behind it. For businesses here — particularly those beginning to sell direct or export — the ground is close to open.

The Surat economy, and what it actually searches for

A trade economy in transition, with the businesses that move online first taking a disproportionate share.

What the Surat market gets wrong

Very little is being done at all, which is the point. Most businesses here have no website worth the name, unclaimed Google profiles and no vernacular content. The competition is not sophisticated; it is largely absent.

What is costing youWhat we do instead
No online presence behind a substantial businessA site and profile that match the scale of what you actually do
Relying entirely on trade networks and physical marketsA second channel that works when the network does not
English-only where the market searches in GujaratiGujarati-led content, which is what this market actually types
No D2C or export visibilityCategory and product content aimed at buyers outside the trade network

We have not published a Surat case study. The transferable published work is KND Steel — a manufacturing business whose decades of expertise existed only offline, made searchable and AI-cited across six buyer industries.

Gujarati, with very little English

Surat is more strongly vernacular than Ahmedabad. Business here is conducted in Gujarati and searched for in Gujarati, including by substantial enterprises with large turnovers. English-only content misses most of the local market entirely. This is one of the few Indian cities where we would recommend leading with vernacular content rather than treating it as a second phase.

Which channels actually earn their place here

We would rather run three channels properly than six badly, so this is the order we would argue for in Surat.

  • Gujarati organic and local search. Together these do most of the work in this market, and almost nobody has claimed them.
  • Category content for trade buyers. Wholesale buyers increasingly search before they call, even when the relationship already exists.
  • D2C and export content in English. Where a business is moving beyond the trade network, this is the growth channel.
  • Paid almost never. With competition this thin, paying for traffic here is usually money wasted.

What it costs in Surat

Most Surat businesses fit Local Starter at ₹15,000 per month or Local Growth at ₹28,000. Businesses building a D2C or export channel alongside the trade business usually need Growth at ₹45,000. Full tiers on the pricing page. The cost of a leading position here is a fraction of Ahmedabad or Mumbai.

Where else we work

Every market reads differently, and we write each of these from what we actually see in it: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur. The full service range is set out on the services page, and the industries directory covers 33 sectors if you would rather start there.

Questions

From Surat businesses considering this.

Is a smaller city worth the investment?

Surat is not small — it is one of India’s largest cities with an enormous commercial base. What it is, is uncontested, which makes it unusually cheap to lead.

Our business runs entirely on trade relationships. Why bother?

Because the relationships are ageing and the next generation of buyers searches first. Most Surat businesses we speak to have noticed enquiries changing shape already.

Should everything be in Gujarati?

Most of it, here. English pages matter for export and D2C, but Gujarati should lead in a way it need not even in Ahmedabad.

How quickly could we lead our category?

Faster than almost anywhere. With competition this light, the profile work and a handful of proper Gujarati pages can move things within a few months.

One of India’s biggest cities, and almost nobody is competing online.
